Larita Nicolson (Tian Jin) founded Journey Chinese in 2018 to help Australian’s learn Chinese with ease.
Larita’s deep experience in language and practical teaching methods is why she’s a highly sort-after tutor and regarded expert in Chinese culture.
Growing up in Kunming, Yunnan China, she now lives in Brisbane, Queensland alongside her husband Lachlan and their dog Frasier.

We offer private tutoring for anyone learning Mandarin between HSK Levels 1 and 4 (beginner to intermediate level).
Levels 5 and above requires advanced Coaching to assist you in self-study.
We also offer Business consulting for specific industries which can involve translation or helping you connect with Chinese businesses overseas.

‘Hanyu Shuiping Kaoshi’ translates to The Chinese Proficiency Test. This is the standardised test for proficiency in Mandarin.
You can take a HSK test at most universities, and your HSK level will be recognised globally.

We recommend engaging a tutor from ages 8+.

Most students book 1 or 1.5 hours a week of tutoring. Lesson times are limited and subject to availability. Most of our students learn online via Zoom.
We also offer in-person tutoring at your home if you live in the Inner South Brisbane area. (e.g Yeronga. Greenslopes, West End, Camp Hill, Mount Gravatt). Travel fees may apply. LIMITED SPACES.

Schedule a Free 15min Call with Larita. In this phone or zoom session, Larita will discover your learning goals and style. Then you can schedule your first tutoring lesson if you choose to proceed.

You’ll be sent digital invoices per lesson or fortnightly (depending on your arrangement), to securely pay via EFT. We also accept debit/credit cards processed securely via Stripe for a 0.5% surcharge.

Yes! You can purchase a digital gift card for someone to redeem for private tutoring, or to use for any of our cultural experiences (in Brisbane)
